From time to time Sustainable Approach makes investments in green solutions and projects. Our ambition with these investments is to earn a profit while making positive social and environmental impact. Furthermore, we support social projects and purposes that align with our corporate activities and values

WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES

Sustainable Approach provides industry leading expertise in mobile network infrastructure management and operational efficiency. Our solutions help clients improve services to end users, increase cost efficiency and reduce carbon footprint. We connect people and things (IoT) through high quality and future-proof network connectivity solutions.

Our services span the full life cycle, from strategy definition to solution design, implementation and finally operations. Customers are found in both the telecom industry and other sectors, in Sweden and internationally. From time to time we work in partnership with other consulting firms.

RESILIENT NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE

We advise regulators, operators, infrastructure owners, vendors, and public sector authorities on resilient, secure, and cost-efficient electronic communications solutions. We are particularly engaged in initiatives that strengthen the robustness and and resilience of fixed and wireless communications infrastructure, contributing to civil preparedness and long-term societal resilience.

Operators continuously look for ways to improve performance, lower operational cost and reduce carbon footprint for network implementation and operations. We provide advice on cooperation and operating models for shared networks and network consolidation. The overall objective is to find the best balance between network quality, time to market and cost.

5G IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

5G is the future backbone of our digitalized economies and societies. Critical infrastructure, autonomous vehicles and industrial control systems will depend on 5G connectivity with high availability and reliability. AI is increasingly integrated in applications that communicate over mobile networks. Cloud-based technologies enable a flexible distribution of network functions and resources over the infrastructure in a way that has not been possible before.

Private companies as well as the public sector will depend on 5G applications for business operations, public services and critical communications. We help our clients understand how 5G can be implemented and operated to provide maximum benefits to the end users. Furthermore, we assist in the procurement of network solutions and services for network implementation and operations.

IoT & INDOOR COVERAGE SOLUTIONS

Today most private and public organisations rely on high quality indoor coverage for voice communication and business-critical data applications. Real estate companies increasingly invest in operator independent coverage solutions to offer superior service and increased flexibility to their tenants. Our services include technology selection, design and verification of indoor coverage solutions.

The explosive growth of IoT brings a multitude of applications with very different requirements on the data rate and power consumption of the end-point devices, and the availability of coverage in hard to reach environments. Finding the connectivity solution that best addresses these needs is of critical importance. We help companies analyse and select connectivity solutions for IoT applications.

National roaming under heightened state of alert introduced in Sweden - Sustainable Approach in key role

In a 3,5-year consultant assignment for PTS, Sustainable Approach has led a cross-operator initiative to prepare the mobile networks in Sweden for national roaming under heightened state of alert

Jerker Berglund speaks at PTS Säkerhetsforum

In April 2022, Jerker Berglund presented at Säkerhetsforum (Security Forum) organized by PTS (the Swedish Post & Telecom Authority). The presentation covered current developments in international standardisation of cybersecurity in electronic communication. View on Youtube (starts after 1 hour, 27 minutes).

Sustainable Approach co-authors new report Broadband for Sustainability from Bredbandsforum

How can digital infrastructure enable climate goals? In the report "Broadband for Sustainability", Bredbandsforum shows how broadband expansion and digitalization are not just technical advances, but crucial tools for building a sustainable society. The report is the result of two years of work in which Bredbandsforum and Sustainable Approach, together with experts and societal actors, has examined the connection between digitalization, broadband and sustainability.

5G seminars for municipalities and regions

In December 2021, Sustainable Approach gave a series of 5G seminars to broadband coordinators and physical planners from municipalities and regions in Sweden. Topics covered included introduction to the 5G standard and the new services made possible, how the Swedish operators upgrade their networks and the opportunities and challenges that the shift to 5G brings to the public sector.

SOLAR ENERGY SERVICES

Companies face increasing demands from end customers, authorities, investors and other stakeholders to reduce the environmental impact caused by their business operations.

Sustainable Approach inspires and helps businesses lower electricity cost, reduce carbon footprint and increase property value through the use of solar energy solutions.

INSPIRATIONAL SEMINAR

Through case studies, we provide concrete evidence of how a company can save money, reduce carbon footprint and strengthen its brand by investing in solar energy solutions and measures to improve energy efficiency. The seminar provides both inspiration and arguments to begin the journey towards a more sustainable and profitable future.

BUSINESS CASE & PROCUREMENT

We calculate the benefits of investing in a roof or ground mounted solar energy system, taking into account the suitability of available buildings and the client's electricity consumption pattern. If the analysis shows a good return on investment, we continue with procurement of the system and manage the chosen supplier during the  implementation phase.

CARBON FOOTPRINT

We review and analyse energy consumption, travel, supply of goods and services from suppliers, and the end customers’ use of the goods and services produced. Based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, it gives a clear and quantified picture of the company's environmental footprint in terms of carbon emissions and energy use. Furthermore, the analysis identifies areas of the business where sustainability and cost-effectiveness can be improved.

PRESTUDY & SYSTEM PROCUREMENT- HOUSING ASSOCIATION (BRF) STOCKHOLM

SOLAR ENERGY NEWS & INSIGHTS

White paper on the solar energy market in Sweden

In the white paper "The solar energy market in Sweden", published in August 2019, Sustainable Approach analyses the rapidly growing solar energy market in Sweden.

Sustainable Approach takes part in unique pilot project

PTS has, in collaboration with Telia, carried out a pilot project to meet society's increased demands for accessibility and preparedness in the event of longer power outages - while minimizing climate impact. The project investigates how fossil-free energy sources can be used to increase the capacity of reserve power and strengthen the mobile network's emergency preparedness. By combining hydrogen, fuel cells, solar cells and batteries, a base station in Roslagen has gone from being able to operate for a few hours during a power outage to being able to last for up to 110 days - without greenhouse gas emissions. As part of Sustainable Approach consulting engagement for PTS, Jerker Berglund has participated in the design of the system, in particular the solar cell plant. The tested solution makes it possible to both produce and store hydrogen directly on site at the base station, which creates a self-sufficient and fossil-free system.

Seminars on solar energy solutions

Sustainable Approach is regularly holding seminars on solar energy solutions for private companies and the public sector.

WIND ENERGY INVESTMENTS

Sustainable Approach has invested in Don't Stop Believin' Windy AB, a company which owns parts of two wind turbines in the south of Sweden.

The first one, located in Legeved, east of Kristianstad, has been in commercial operation since 2014. The second one, which went into commercial operation in 2017, is located in Täppeshusen, south of Höganäs. Both turbines are operated by Eolus Wind and have this far produced electricity in line with expectations

SOLAR ENERGY INVESTMENTS

Sustainable Approach has invested in more than 20 solar projects in countries like Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Vietnam and Indien through Trine's crowd sourcing platform.

Trine is making solar energy accessible in areas without access to the electricity grid, thereby improving lives for people and reducing CO2 emissions. This far, these investments have provided 2000 people with clean electricity and reduced CO2 emission by more than 500 tons.
